The economy reduced the number of new courses being designed in the US. In 2012, only FOUR new courses are under developed . Despite the challenging economy, Jan Bel Jan Golf Course Design continues to perform, design, renovation and consulting work for many clubs throughout the US.
The economic vagaries of the last decade encouraged Club representatives to prioritize their needs and goals. Acknowledging and evaluating existing conditions have always been recognized as important tools in planning for improvements. I had the great fortune to work with and learn from Tom Fazio, one of the most highly regarded contemporary golf course designers. My earliest design experiences with Tom Fazio were preparing concept plans, preliminary budgets, construction plans, bid documents and renderings of proposed and finished projects. I progressed to on-site construction design and management. Below are some of the projects on which I worked as the lead designer, or as a team member, with Tom Fazio.
